PROTECT OUR FOREST
IT’S OFFICIAL:
Save the Redwoods League has purchased redwood forest
Conservation group, Save The Redwoods League, has completed its purchase of 394 acres of redwood forest, including land slated for logging as part of the Silver Estates Timber Harvest Plan.
The Guerneville Forest Coalition has been fighting for three years to stop the logging plan and we are delighted that nearly 400 acres of forest, including one mile of scenic riverfront, will now be protected and restored.
This is great news for the local community, our small town, and the Russian River.
Thank you to all our volunteers and supporters who have worked so hard to protect the forest and its delicate ecosystem.
The purchase of the property, which has been renamed Russian River Redwoods, will bring numerous benefits, including:
long term plans to restore the health of the forest
efforts to improve wildfire resilience
long term protection for the 2,000 year old Clar Tree
future safeguards through conservation easements and recreational covenants
greater monitoring and improvements of water quality
protected views along the scenic highway
less wear and tear on roads and other infrastructure
support for the tourist industry
continued carbon sequestration to help combat climate change
